I love to create, express and provoke. Tell a story, evoke emotion and create change. I also love working with other artists, collaborations are always fun and inspiring.

Hello Mariel, when did you decide you wanted to pursue modeling?
I’ve always wanted to model, but never thought of myself as pretty enough to be a model. I’ve always been very insecure and hated having my picture taken however I have always been a rebel at heart, so modeling kind of became a rebellion against my own insecurities. I never even had the balls to go to a modeling agency but I’m finally going to go.

What influences your work?
Everything. Life, humanity, sex, what’s going on in the world, my personal life past and present and off course other artists work and the people I meet.

What do you like to do when you’re not modeling?
Make movies. I started a production company “For Love Productions” with my twin sister Marita Gomsrud, where we write, direct and produce conscious media. I also do acting. I’m kind of a workaholic but off course I love going out with my friends, good food and drinks, hiking, yoga and love music and now that summer is here I can’t wait to go home to see my family.

What is the best part of the job for you?
I love to create, express and provoke. Tell a story, evoke emotion and create change. I also love working with other artists, collaborations are always fun and inspiring.

The most important thing for you in life is?
Love. My family, friends and art I don’t know who or where I would be today if I didn’t have an outlet to express myself.

Who would you like to work with in the future?
Steven Meisel, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Steven Klein, David Bellmere, Tony Duran, Lars Von Trier, Gaspar Noe, Alejandro Gonzales Innarritu, Patti Smith, David Fincher.

A place you would love to visit?
Good so many, I love traveling, a place I’ve always wanted to go would be Morocco

Any exciting projects on the horizon?
Yes a lot of exiting projects coming up. I have the lead in the film “Evelyn Rising” which we will start filming soon, my sister and I will be directing a fashion video for Elodie K this summer, and we are soon releasing a video we did with Gray Matter Clothing. I will also be going to NYC for fashion week and looking forward to connect with the shakers and movers out there.

Good advice for models out there?
Stay true to who you are, be a good role model and never lose your integrity or moral values for a job

Is there anything else you think I need to know?
I think anyone who aspires or feels the calling to be an artist or a public figure has a built in sense of duty to influence people in positive ways. Art has the power to create change and you can really change the world if you care enough.
