As I was growing as an artist, I always felt the need of taking photographs that look like I behave and feel during a shoot.
You started with festival, concert and music events photography. What led you to fashion and beauty photography?
I always was taking portraits of friends and artists. After doing that for some years I went to a local photo studio and just experimented. I was quite fascinated by the possibilities a staged environment gave me and how I could change the look of my photographs just be moving the light, something I could not do on stage.
Over the years my desire to take photos that look exactly how I want them to look, without worrying about how the light might be that day (on stage), grew and I extended my field of work from taking portraits to beauty and fashion.
Your images feel very natural, relaxed and smooth. Is it something you look for when you shoot?
As I was growing as an artist, I always felt the need of taking photographs that look like I behave and feel during a shoot. You won’t ever see me being stressed out or hesitating because something doesn’t work out as planned. That’s exactly how I want every model to feel too, calm, relaxed and to behave naturally.
It seems that most of your last photographs are made in natural light. Any special reason?
Lately I shoot mostly film, which, in my opinion, looks better in natural light. In addition I like my recent shoots to look less staged and more natural.
In a few words, how would you describe your work?
Wow, to be honest, I have a really hard time to describe my work. According to one of my best mates and fellow photographer Michelle Müller: I try to capture the person as an individual instead of just taking a nice photograph.
Your favorite movie?
Black and white or color?
For me, that’s never a question of elimination. If a scene contains vibrant colors, it’s color of course. If I want to keep it simple, Black and white.
If I really would have to choose, color.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hopefully still having fun shooting, having a wonderful and supportive family and friends.
Residence, hopefully Italy, Milan to be precise, in the meantime, I’d love to do my Masters degree in Sweden.
I always wanted to go back to New York too.
So, I can’t tell you where I see myself exactly, just how, and that would be – happy.
Is there anything else you think I need to know?
I like cats, a lot.
Even though that was very honest, it would be that my partners with whom I constantly work, whether it be my “assistant”, who once asked to come with me to a shoot, and now is a wonderful photographer herself, I go to a stylist or make-up artist, all those creative people that make my photos look like they do today are not just my friends, they are family. I’m not only blessed that what I love is such a wonderful thing like photography, I’m blessed with those people who became close friends and added to those friends who I know since 10, 15 years.
