I think a picture has no interest if it does not provoke something inside the viewer, such as a thought, joy,
or simply a surprise.

Maeva, when did you start to become a model ? what attracts you in modelling ?
I’ve been a model since 2007, after a beauty pageant in my city which I signed in more for fun than something else. Winning the price of Miss Agde 2007 I then started to do some shootings, fashion shows, short movies… etc then I’ve been contacted by agencies and I filled in my book, little by little. What I like and animates me is this staging, allows to reinvent ourselves constantly and to play a role and to let your imagination going. We have wonderful meetings with people that are as much as passionate in the beautiful picture than you.

What inspires you most?
As a model I have to furnish what’s been asked without having a word to say, that is why, for a few years, I’m also an art director and build my own projects. And that stays adequacy with my diploma. As an AD, what inspires me can come from many different things. The work of others is obviously an inspiration source but also an ambiance, an emotion, society… etc. I think a picture has no interest if it does not provoke something inside the viewer, such as a thought, joy, or simply a surprise. Photography has to have a meaning and give an experience to the audience.

Wow, but you can enjoy from your experience as an AD to bring ideas to the photographers that you are working with?
Exactly! It happens to simply answer to an ad or to a job that I like in which case I’m just a model and give what we expect of me. Which is also good.
But I’m working more and more on projects as an AD.
And in that case, which is most of the time for magazines, I start from one of my ideas or adequacy with the magazine needs, then I realized necessary documents such as “Pull Letter Request”, I’m tracking for partnership for the place of the session, I constitute and manage the teams and manage the post production teams as well. Without forgetting, the layout of the visual and artistic aspect of the publication and the writing of articles as well, such as “Inspiration design and technical work” if necessary, to the collaboration of the broadcast team.
It’s best to combine both…

What is your best experience as a model until today?
Yes, it is exciting to be able to touch, to every different step.
Every experience brings something, after all I think there is a phenomenon of collector in it. We endlessly look to feed our book of wonderful projects which animate us deeply, but while we still search for this feeling, this collection should not be complete.
But if I had to choose, I’d say those that ask more from the model than a simple presence or pause but more an attitude and specially expressivity and strength.
An experience was unique for me, it’s a short movie I’ve been selected for as a model (in other word an extra) but after the first day of the shooting, the director came to ask me if I wanted to replace the leading role because “catch the camera”. Extremely surprised and also impressed, I preferred to specify that I’ve never acted before, in other word, except to take a picture, but I’ve tried anyway, every experience is good to take!
As a result, I had a morning and two coaches to help me and I’ve discovered a world, an ambiance and wonderful people.
And here I am at 2012 in the TEASER of « BAD MOOD » short movie released in stereoscopic 3D by Olivier Parthonnaud and presented at the Cannes Film Festival.

It’s very impressive…
Exciting!

Are you planning to follow this road after Bad Mood?
No idea yet. I must confess that it was super, I don’t pretend to be an actress after few experiences, but if the opportunity comes I’ll renew the experience with pleasure! Actress is a little extension to work of model right?
My diploma shortly in my pocket because I’m in the fifth and last year of my MASTER Marketing & Communication, I’m going to have to make a choice and still don’t know where my heart inclines.

The future is very promising…
You live in Paris for the moment, is that right? Do you like living there?
I have lived in Paris since 2 years to finalize my studies. It’s a very nice city where lots of things happen and in the universe of photography, it’s very fulfilling but I miss my south. I’m from the midi, form Agde near Montpellier although I don’t have a southern accent (laugh) because I travelled a lot, including 3 years in Venezuela which particularly marked me! I love Latin America so much, why don’t settle there and built a project there? But whatever it will be, it must involve an artistic facet to convince me.

Is there a particular photographer that you’d like to work with?
No, not particularly, as much as I like his universe.
I love to discover and built new projects with beautiful teams and as much as they share the same passion than me…
Nobody can stop me.
Of course, besides the collaboration some are more friends and it’s still a pleasure to work with them, but it’s a middle where we can’t limit ourselves to one and only team! That’s the rule

Your favorite sport?
Photography! Because sometimes it is a real obstacle course!
No, I’m kidding… Before starting my studies, my biggest passion was dance. Whether it was modern jazz, body language, flamenco, or salsa, or rock, here also, it’s about a universe that implies creativity and passion.

The most important thing in life is…
I think I’ve said love instinctively. You’d understand it, I’m a person that works to affect and emotions and even if professional aspect is important for me, love stays essential to my well being and my personal growth. Life reserves, wonderful surprises, but by sharing them with others it is better.

Is there something else that we need to know?
About me? Maybe, but I think that I’ve said too much already (laugh). I’ll simply invite you to discover my universe.

Thanks!
